On the heels of similar tentative approval given to Continental Airlines, American Airlines will begin nonstop service from Chicago O'Hare International Airport to Shanghai, China, on April 2, 2006, subject to government approval.  The announcement follows the tentative decision by the U.S. Department of Transportation to grant American the authority to fly to China from the United States.  American will become the fourth U.S. passenger carrier to do so.

The former New York City mayor Mr. Rudolph W. Giuliani, visited Beijing on Feb 4th to 6th, 2005. During the one and half day stay, he had paid a visit to the Mayor of Beijing Wang Qishan, the chairman of CPPCC Jia Qinglin, the Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, and the Chairman Liu Ming Kang of China Banking Regulatory Commission.


Mayor Giuliani was also in attendance at his Welcome Breakfast Function and Spring Festival Concert which were held in the Grand Ballroom of the Presidential Plaza Hotel. Pictured here upon his arrival at the Presidential Plaza Hotel Beijing, he was warmly welcomed by the newly appointed General Manager Mr. Gerhard R.Fasching, the Resident Manager Mr.Ilja Poepper and deputy GM Mr.George Liu.

Swissôtel Beijing pays serious attention to social responsibility and visited the Beijing Deaf Children Rehabilitation Center before the Chinese New Year to share good tidings with the youngsters.

Many articles of clothing were donated to the disabled children including sport dresses, books and study necessities.

The British Embassy in China has introduced a network of visa application centers across the country. Xinhua reports that the network covers not only the major cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, but also others including Shenyang, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Chengdu and Chongqing.
