The reconstruction of Tibet's three major cultural relics of the Potala Palace, Norbulingka and Sakya Kloster are reportedly going smoothly and the Snow City of the Potala Palace will be formally opened to the public during this year's May Day holiday.

The Tibetan Culture Heritage Department says that until now, the reinforcement of the Potala Palace's main structure and the maintenance of other 17 ancient buildings has been completed. Norbulingka's old buildings and fresco have also been repaired. The city wall, turret, monk's dormitory and other old buildings at Sakya Kloster have also been renovated.

The reconstruction of the three cultural relics dates back to June 2002 when the Chinese central government invested RMB330 million for the protection and renovation of the three sites. The Potala Palace, which was built in the seventh century, is a world cultural heritage site. Norbulingka, built in 1751, is the largest garden at the highest altitude in the world, and Sakya Kloster is a main temple for Tibetan Buddhism and home to abundant Tibetan Buddhism files and other rarely-seen cultural relics.
