During the past May Day holiday, which was the twentieth golden week holiday observed in China, Beijing received a total of 4.86 million tourists, representing an increase of 8.4% compared with the same period of last year.

Of those travelers, 2.05 million were tourists coming from other areas in China, increasing by 4.1%, and 2.81 million were Beijing citizens, up 12%. Of all the scenic spots in the city, Beijing Happy Valley ranked tops with over RMB26 million tourism income and 185,000 tourists.

The city's domestic tourism revenue during the holiday was RMB4.167 billion, up 6.2%. Of that sum, tourists from other places spent RMB3.8 billion, up 5.3%, and Beijing citizens spent RMB365 million, increasing by 17.4%.

With the increase of private cars, driving has become a main means of outing for Beijing citizens. More than 60% of the tourists chose to travel in the suburbs of Beijing by driving. Beijing rural area's tourist reception in the period increased by 35% and tourism income increased by 40%.
