In order to promote a full range of cooperation among different regions of China, eleven Chinese travel cities, including Chengdu, have proposed to set up a national travel alliance and the parties will sign a cooperation agreement next month.
The eleven cities are Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Kunming, Chengdu, Harbin and Guilin, all of which are hot travel destination cities based on the number of tourists they have received over the past few years.
According to the Chengdu Municipal Tourism Department, the near-term goal of this travel alliance is to meet the demand of the 2008 Olympic Games which is estimated to see about 600,000-800,000 tourists.
The framework agreement to be signed among them will include such clauses as building a cooperation mechanism among all travel cities, integrating tourism resources, creating famous travel brands and fostering a good environment for sustainable development of the travel cities.
