Chengdu Plans To Build New Airport
While Chengdu is currently expanding the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, there is another new airport in the city's Jintang County undergoing planning.
The local government expects Chengdu to be the fourth domestic hub airport in China in the next 5 to 10 years. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport reached a flow of 16,278,000 passengers in 2006, fifth only after Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Ge Honglin, mayor of Chengdu, said that Shuangliu Airport has a total investment of about RMB12.7 billion earmarked for its expansion of which a new runway and a 250,000-square-meter terminal building will be built.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China also plans to support aviation infrastructure construction in western areas with a special civil aviation fund of RMB24 billion, including airport construction, air traffic control, security and science education.
