The main expansion project of Beijing Capital International Airport has passed a final inspection by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, making it the first officially accepted large construction project for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The investment of this project totals about RMB27 billion, which aimes at increasing the airport's transportation capacity to annually handle 76 million passengers, 1.8 million tons of cargo and more than 500,000 aircraft movements by 2015. After expansion, the airport will be 1.6 times larger than its former space.
