According to the Tibet Tourism Bureau, from November 2007 to January 2008 Tibet hosted approximately 20,000 foreign tourists.

The data indicates that in 2007, Tibet welcomed a total of more than 365,000 inbound tourists, 210,500 higher than the previous year. Tibet achieved US$135.29 million tourism foreign exchange revenue, US$74.35 million higher than the previous year. The growth rate for inbound tourists was ranked in first place in China.

In recent years, with the newly opened Qinghai-Tibet railway and Linzhi Airport's expanded operations, the tourism industry in Tibet has entered a prime era of development.

In 2008, according to local media, Tibet is expected to exceed a total of five million domestic and international tourists, and its total tourism revenue will reach RMB6 billion.
