China has signed Memoranda of Understanding on visa and related issues with 53 nations, bringing the total number of approved nations with Authorized Destination Status (ADS) to 67, 10 of which were the new members of the European Union, which were automatically added in the list from May 1.
The two most recent inclusions were Ireland on Tuesday and the Seychelles in late April, but tour groups organized by travel agencies can still only go to 26 nations — the other 40 countries are in the process of settling visa procedures and exchanging travel agency names.
With beautiful scenery and mild climate, Ireland will expect more Chinese tourists, said Irish Minister of Arts, Sport and Tourism John O'Donoghue, during his first official visit to China this week. For the Chinese people, who also have long history and splendidcultures, the ancient relics and literature masters of Ireland will be main attractions, he added.
The World Tourism Organization currently predicts that, by 2020, China will have become the world's fourth tourism nation in terms of outbound tourists.
