On January 21, Shangri-La's Kerry Centre Hotel, Beijing organized a charity event for 100 children of Sun Village in Shun Li County, Beijing. This is a charity organization for children whose parents are serving time in prison. The hotel offered a special buffet luncheon and a donation of living necessities to the village.

Macau Asia Express, a new airline based in Macau, has been launched and will initially fly to new destinations in China and Asia  with its first commercial flight expected in the fourth quarter of 2006.

Shanghai-based China Eastern has introduced the Airbus A330-300 plane to China. This is the first time that an airline from the mainland China has used the A330-300.

China Southern Airlines flew a record 44.12 million passengers in 2005, marking the largest single year passenger total carried in the airline's 27 year history.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will launch scheduled service between Amsterdam and Chengdu on May 28, 2006.

China Youth Travel Service (CYTS) announced that it will open a subsidiary in Shanghai. CYTS will invest RMB80 million in the new company and also provide RMB20 million to its Beijing subsidiary Beijing CYTS Chuangge Technology Company.
