Air China has disclosed that starting this month they will add more flights to Lhasa to assist the transport capacity from the newly launched Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

The seat occupancy of their flights in July has already doubled from the same period last year. From July 10, they will cancel the Beijing-Chengdu-Lhasa flight and replace it with a nonstop Beijing-Lhasa flight.

In addition, by the end of July, the number of flights from Chengdu to Lhasa will be increased from the current six per day to 11 per day.

Hu Jian, a representative from Air China's Chengdu office, has told local media that the launch of Qinghai-Tibet Railway offers more passengers for the civil aviation market. Because it takes most of the trains more than two days to go to Lhasa, many tourists would like to go there by train, but return by air.
