Marriott will open its second Renaissance-branded hotel in Beijing in 2008 under a management agreement with Beijing R&F Properties Development Company.

When opened, the 540-room property will be called the Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel and will be the eighth hotel in Marriott International's portfolio in Beijing. Aedas has been retained as the project architect and the interior designer is Hirsch/Bedner Associates.

The 26-story property will be situated on the southern edge of the Beijing central business district as part of the massive R&F City 1.6-million square meter mixed-use development. Construction on a subway station, that will be connected to the hotel by the retail mall at R&F City, is underway and is expected to be completed before the 2008 summer Olympic Games.

"We are impressed by the rapid transformation of Beijing into a vibrant, international metropolis offering tourist and business travelers alike a vast array of cultural and historical attractions as well as a huge concentration of commercial enterprises," said Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging at Marriott International.  "In addition, Beijing has become one of the major regional destinations for meetings and incentive travelers. We are certain that because of its size, high-quality guestrooms and extensive conference facilities, the Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel will be a successful addition to Beijing's hospitality infrastructure."

For dining and entertainment, the Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel will have three restaurants, a bakery cafe, a lobby lounge and an entertainment bar.  The restaurants will be comprised of an all-day facility with a permanent grand buffet, a Chinese restaurant offering six private dining rooms and a specialty restaurant with one private dining room.

Guest rooms at the property will be oversized, with most measuring 40-square meters and all featuring four-fixture baths. The large executive lounge will also have a board room. Recreational facilities will include a health club and a 1,500-square meter spa with eight treatment rooms as well as an indoor swimming pool. Other amenities will include a gift shop and business center.

For conferences and social events, the Renaissance Beijing Capital Hotel will have 2,189-square meters of flexible meeting space featuring a 1,262-square meter grand ballroom that will be divisible into five sections. A 270-square meter junior ballroom as well as a 104-square meter meeting room will each be divisible into two sections. The hotel will have five additional meeting rooms and a board room.

The Marriott International hotel portfolio in Beijing currently consists of the Renaissance Beijing Hotel, Beijing Marriott Hotel West, the New World Courtyard Beijing, the Beijing Palm Spring Marriott Executive Apartments and the New World Jing Guang Hotel.  Under construction are the JW Marriott Hotel Beijing and the Courtyard by Marriott Beijing Northeast, both of which are expected to open in early 2008.
