During this year's October Golden Week Holiday, which was the first golden week holiday after the Qinghai-Tibet Railway was launched, Tibet saw a tourist increase of 20%.
According to the latest statistics from the Tibetan Tourism Bureau, 265,800 tourists from China and abroad visited Tibet during the holiday, increasing 19.4% compared with last year. These tourists brought in RMB86.89 million to the area, an increase of 18% over the same period last year.
During the seven-day holiday, the room occupancy of most of the hotels and home inns in Tibet reached 90%, and the majority of the guests were tourists visiting the region.
Because of the visitor influx, the Potala Palace, which is the hottest spot for tourists visiting Lhasa, limited the admission of tourists. During the golden week holiday, only 500 tourists were allowed to enter the Potala Palace each day.
