The construction of Shanghai Happy Valley, which is located in the Shanghai Sheshan National Holiday Resort, begins construction this month.

Shanghai Happy Valley, covering a total space of 1300 mu, will be the biggest theme park in Shanghai and in eastern China. It is expected to receive about 5-7 million visitors every year upon completion.

A representative from Sheshan Holiday Resort says that Shanghai Happy Valley will be 10 times bigger than Jinjing Amusement Park, which was the first amusement park in Shanghai. According to the planned schedule, it will be formally opened before the World Expo 2010.

As Beijing Happy Valley had made more than RMB100 million in income in the first 3 months after its opening, Shanghai Happy Valley is expected to make RMB1.5-2 billion income per year. At present, the theme of the park has not been decided, but it will be a complex venue containing a big amusement park, serviced apartments, a conference center and a performance center which can hold more than 5000 people.
