News from Zhongshan Municipal Government is that the city is constructing more than 30 hotel projects, including eight five-star hotels.
The hotel industry is one of the industries whose development is greatly encouraged by the local government. Among those 30 hotel projects, 25 involve more than RMB10 million in investment, and more than 10 of them will be above 4-star grade.
In response to the question whether this large scale construction will cause a room surplus in the region, a representative from the municipal development and reform bureau says that this won't happen, as currently the room occupancy in Zhongshan is just about 58%.
The new hotels will add about 4000 beds for the city.
