Growing passenger demand throughout the Gulf Region has prompted Qatar Airways to boost the number of flights between Doha and Muscat to double daily from March 25, 2007.

Qatar Airways currently operates 11 flights a week between the capitals of Qatar and Oman, respectively, with Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft operating in a two-class confuration of First and Economy. With the economies in the GCC rapidly expanding, convenient travel options are becoming vital for many of the region's business travellers, said Qatar Airways Regional Manager for the Arabian Peninsula, Ali Abdul Khaliq, during a press conference held at the Crowne Plaza in Muscat.

"The volume of traffic between Qatar and Oman continues to grow. We anticipate that the increased frequency of flights will provide more convenience for passengers and further facilitate closer ties between the two countries," he said. "Doha is also growing in prominence as a regional hub, feeding passenger traffic from Europe, Africa and the Middle East, through the Gulf States and beyond."

Khaliq added that the increase in number of flights between Doha and Muscat will give more passengers the opportunity to use Qatar Airways' brand new Premium Terminal at Doha International Airport. The terminal is for exclusive use of Qatar Airways' First and Business Class passengers departing from Doha or transiting through the city.

The Premium Terminal features a Five-Star welcome and check in service, as well as a variety of top-end facilities including spa treatments and jacuzzis, duty-free shopping, a state-of-the-art business center and fine dining options. Built in just nine months, the US$90 million terminal is the world's first commercial passenger building dedicated to First and Business Class passengers.
