Statistics show that in February 2007 the number of Chinese tourists visiting New Zealand increased to 14,927, an increase of 76% and a new historical high over previous years.
George Hickton, CEO of New Zealand Tourism Board, was happy with the increase. He reportedly said that the non-stop flight of Air New Zealand, the effective marketing by the New Zealand Tourism Board and the Chinese New Year, which fell in February, were the three main factors that accounted for the good performance in February this year.
In considering the big increase of tourists to New Zealand, Air New Zealand has decided to add two more flights from October 31 this year which will make its total flights between China and New Zealand reach five each week to better meet the market demand.
In January this year, 500,000 consumers visited the board's website, which was an increase of more than 50% compared with the same period of last year. In 2007, the New Zealand Tourism Board will spend a large amount of money to upgrade its simplified Chinese website to offer more convenience and better service for Chinese consumers and bookers.
