CNTA Official: Golden Week Holidays To Remain

Zhang Xiqin, deputy director of China National Tourism Administration, says that China's three golden week holidays would by no means be reduced, regardless of whatever adjustments are made in the future.
Zhang said that there are indeed a lot of problems such as overcrowding and difficulty in buying tickets during the golden weeks, but the concerned governnment departments have begun to work on solving these problems. Zhang said that no matter how they adjust the golden week, the total number of legal holidays won't be reduced, only that they might be added to other traditional Chinese holidays.
During this year's May golden week holiday, China received a total of 179 million tourists and achieved RMB73.6 billion in tourism income, which is an increase of 25.8% compared with the same period of last year. The figure shows that the golden week system has played an important part in stimulating the country's domestic economic development.
China's 'golden week' system was launched in 1999, aiming to boost domestic consumer demand.
