Hubei Province Yangtze River and Three Gorges International Travel Destination Development Plan Outline have outlined a blueprint for tourism in the Three Gorges region.

According to the plan, the Three Gorges will be built into a first class travel destination in China by 2015 and a top grade international travel destination by 2020. The entire construction will involve a total of RMB14.7 billion in investment.

According to market demands, the Three Gorges will be built into a hub destination for river sightseeing, best travel cities, rafting, summer resorts, and leisure under six different brands. The plan also focuses on upgrading the facilities at nine riverside sites including Jiu Wan Xi, Shen Nong Xi and Yang Jia Xi, in an effort to build the Three Gorges into a boating destination in China. It also intends to integrate the Three Gorges Dam and Gezhou Dam with Xiling Gorge to offer a comprehensive cruise package.

In addition, the plan states that Hubei Province will further combine its 5A scenic spots and create eight more 5A grade scenic spots to encourage more tourists to travel to the area.
