Potala Palace's Shol Village Opens Doors

After a six-year renovation, Shol Village at the foot of the Potala Palace in Tibet has formally opened its doors to tourists .
Covering 50,000 sqm and consisted of 22 ancient architectures, Shol Village is part of the Potala Palace and functioned as the working district for the government, nobles and monasteries over the centuries. It was also the residential area for generations of Dalai Lamas, as well as officials, nobles, and people of lower classes.
The thirteen spots to be opened to tourists include a prison, a mint and a former government agency for legislation and taxation services. The entry fee is temporarily fixed at RMB30.
