Northwest Airlines announced that it will resume daily nonstop flights between Osaka, Japan, and Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, beginning December 21, 2007.
"Northwest Airlines is pleased to be once again offering daily service between Osaka and Saipan. We appreciate the continued support of the Marianas Visitors Authority and look forward to working closely with the MVA to promote the new flights to Saipan, a popular vacation destination for our customers," said Laura Liu, vice president – international marketing and sales.
The new daytime service will operate with B757 aircraft, with 20 seats in business class and 162 seats in coach.
"The daytime flights being added by Northwest Airlines between Osaka and Saipan we believe will be popular with leisure travelers and an essential step forward for our tourism industry," said Jerry Tan, chairman of the board of directors, Marianas Visitors Authority.
The new services to Saipan will complement the six daily roundtrip flights Northwest currently offers between Japan and Micronesia. Northwest offers daily service from Nagoya and Tokyo to Saipan. In addition, Northwest offers two daily flights from Tokyo to Guam and daily service from Nagoya and Osaka to Guam.
"I am grateful to Northwest Airlines for its decision to reinstate nonstop service between Saipan and Osaka," said Benigno Fitial, governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. "Tourism plays an increasingly critical role in the economic well-being of our islands, and Japan is CNMI's key market."
