Tibet Showcases New Travel Theme

Tibet Autonomous Region has recently launched a new travel theme of "The Roof Of The World, Mysterious Tibet" to promote the region's tourism development.
Yu Yungui, secretary of the Tibet Tourism Bureau, said that this theme has summed up the characteristic of Tibet's natural and cultural scenery and it facilitates the upgrading of Tibet's travel resource and boosting its travel image.
Since the Qinghai-Tibet Railway was launched, Tibet has been seeing increased tourism growth. In 2006, the region received more than 2.5 million tourists, an increase of 39.5% compared with that of the previous year. During this year's May Day holiday, it received 340,000 tourists and achieved over RMB100 million in tourism income. It is estimated that Tibet will receive more than 3 million tourists this year.
