The China National Tourism Administration has chosen 66 scenic spots, including the Palace Museum in Beijing, as the first batch of 5A scenic spots.

Based on the national standard of Scenic Spot Quality Grade Evaluation and Scenic Spot Quality Rating Management Measure, CNTA began to work on the 5A scenic spot selection in March 2006. In the past year, each scenic spot has worked hard to reach the 5A standard and their service quality and standards have been remarkably improved, according to the CNTA.

66 of them finally received their titles after undergoing evaluations of various levels. CNTA hopes that these winners cherish the honor and continue to improve themselves in both management level and service quality.

China's Scenic Spot Quality Grade Evaluation was enforced in 1999. In the past eight years, more than 3000 scenic spots in the country have been rated and evaluated.
