Fu Shuangjian, vice-governor of Hebei Province, announced that Hebei will soon put the 400 hotels that are within a 90-minute drive to Beijing into service for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
200 of these hotels are reportedly star-grade hotels, and the rest are budget hotels. It is estimated that Beijing will receive more than 6 million overseas visitors in 2008, and during the Olympic Games, it will receive 500,000-550,000 overseas tourists and a total of 2.5 million domestic tourists. Fu said this offers a big opportunity for Hebei Province to help visitors when they arrive.
In recent years, the Hebei has evaluated 85 scenic spots, which has risen the total number to 176, and it has approved 80 star-grade hotels, bringing the total number of star-grade hotels to 400. In addition, it has formed a training network among provincial agencies, cities, counties and enterprises, and this network has already trained 200,000 tourism professionals. Among those, 8250 have already gained their tour guide certificates.
Hebei is also preparing a special organization to coordinate the work for the Olympic Games and they are aiming to speed up the construction of their tourism facilities.
