According to a new regulation in Beijing, civil servants who take planes for business trips will be monitored and the hotels at which they stay should be at the 3-star level or below.

A representative from the Beijing Finance Bureau has introduced that travel cost reforms are focused on adjusting the expenditure of business trips and rationalizing accommodation management. In the past, some civil servants reportedly had extravagant expenses when they traveled outside China's capital city.

When it comes to the maximum accommodation expenditure, a standard considering the economic development and price level of the destination city will be implemented, and civil servants at deputy mayor level can spend RMB600 per day, while bureau director level officials can spend RMB300 each day.

The appointed hotels will be chosen by inviting bids from across the nation. This will hopefully also guarantee that the cleanliness and service at the hotels will be standardized.
