China Youth Travel Service (Hainan) has been asked to stop its travel agency operations for one month after being found guilty of breaking relevant rules.

It has also been ordered to pay a RMB70000 fine because it subcontracting many of its departments to outside companies, which it is not allowed to do. Yang Yuanqiang, deputy director of the Hainan Provincial Tourism Inspection Team, says that during the May Day holiday alone, they received two complaints against CYT Hainan and the company's irregular operation has caused a bad effect on the tourism market of Hainan Province.

Since October 2006, HPTIT has received 19 complaints against CYT Hainan, including the two during the recent holiday. Consumers have complained that the travel service provider hired tour guides without a qualification certificate, voluntarily contracting its business to others, lowered travel service quality, charged tourists extra money and changed travel routes without notifying travelers.
