Local media reveals that the China National Tourism Administration has punished 138 hotels in Yunnan after completing recent national star-grade hotel re-assessments.
Of the 138 hotels, 14 hotels' star-grade qualifications have been downgraded, 27 hotels have been revoked of star-grade qualifications, 50 hotels have been asked to rectify within given deadlines and 47 hotels have been suspended in the assessment.
Of all the provinces in China, Yunnan had the most punished hotels after the re-assessments. Zhao Guoxiong, director of Yunan Provincial Hotel Industry Association, says this shows the province has fierce competition leading to operating difficulties. Zhao says that the punishments for star-grade hotels is good for maintaining the service quality and service level of the entire hospitality industry.
Wu Peng, general manager of Kunming Green Lake Hotel, tells local media that imposing punishment such as downgrading and canceling star qualification of hotels is conducive for the hospitality industry to improve its hardware facilities and service quality as well as to increase their operational efficiencies.
