The Civil Aviation Administration of China says that Great Wall Airlines, Jade Airlines and Shanghai International Cargo Airlines, an affiliate of Shanghai Airlines, have each applied to run cargo service between China and the United States, and Hainan Airlines has applied to open a Beijing-Seattle passenger line.
This is the first time that airline companies from China have applied for air service between the two countries since China and the U.S. reached a new aviation right agreement in May. A top manager from SICA has told local media they filed the application in order to seize an advantageous market position.
The flying capacity of these companies is still under a quota set by previous negotiations between China and the United States. More Chinese airlines are expected to want to run a China-U.S. line before the aviation rights are fully opened in 2011. According to that new aviation right agreement signed between China and the U.S, Chinese airline companies can enter the U.S. aviation market without any limit and the two country's cargo flight market will be fully opened by 2011.
