Tianjin Goubuli Baozi Catering (Group) Company opened their first direct-run hotel in Beijing's Qianmen area on September 6 and now has plans to open more.
According to local media, they will establish another two high-end hotels in areas around Beijing within this year. There is no word yet on where these hotels will be located.
Tianjin Goubuli will focus in the future on direct-run hotels, rather than franchised outlets, in order to better unify standards, regulate management and maintain brand image. As for the present Tianjin Goubuli unit franchisees with licenses, the company reportedly will maintain those relationships if the outlets are run in good order.
Besides high-end hotels, the group will also set up public eateries as direct-run outlets. The company reportedly chose Beijing as its initial market to take advantage of the 2008 Olympic Games so that foreign and domestic guests coule enjoy the authentic flavors of Goubuli baozi. Baozi are steamed buns usually stuffed with meat or vegetables, and Goubuli baozi are perhaps the most famous baozi in China.
