Nanjing is bustling with hotel activity, with forecasts of hotel numbers to double within five years.

Currently, there are eight five-star hotels, fourteen four-star, 54 three-star, and 47 two-star or lower level hotels in Nanjing. Jin Weidong, vice director of Nanjing Tourism Bureau, said that the percentage rate of growth for star hotels in the city is not high enough, with only 123 star hotels among more than 2000 registered lodging outlets.

By the end of this year, several international hotel chain brands like Westin, Novotel, and InterContinental Hotels will settle in Nanjing. The Tourism Management Department in the city reportedly plans to focus on building hotels in areas of the city that currently lack adequate star hotel facilities with hopes of doublig the number of star hotels by 2012.
