During the recent Sanya Winter Tourism Recommendation Meeting, Sanya government representatives said that Japan will be an important market for inbound tourists.

Japanese tourists to China reached 3,390,000 in 2006, with an annual growth rate of 9%, and China has become the biggest outbound travel destination country for Japan. For the first eight months of 2007, Japanese tourists to Sanya was 21,777, 40.54% higher than same period of last year, even though this number is much less than Russian and Korean tourists. Japanese tourists mostly travel to Sanya by transfer or charter flights.

Golf and scuba diving are two focuses for Japanese travelers coming to Sanya, and the area plans to beef up its resources to meet the growing demand.
