Kunpeng Airlines, one of China's newest airline brands, has opened its initial outlet in Xi'an.
Kunpeng Airlines is the biggest regional airline owned by a Sino-US joint venture. Built by Shenzhen Airlines and Mesa Air Group, it is based at Xianyang International Airport and the new company focuses on regional flights, passengers and freight service, as well as charter flights.
Kunpeng's registered capital is RMB500 million, of which Shenzhen Airlines invested RMB225 million. Pingshan Company Ltd and Mesa's Shanyue Company respectively invested RMB125 million and RMB120 million in foreign exchange into the venture.
Kunpeng expects that their total aircraft will reach six within this year and be up to 20 by 2008. They plan to add 15 aircraft annually in the next 10 years and expand to 160-180 aircraft and 160 routes by 2016.
