Xiang Ping, deputy director of the Sports Service Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, has disclosed at a press conference that BOCOG has canceled agreements with eight Olympic signed hotels for such reasons as improper renovation processes, remote locations and inactive reservation services.

As a result of the cancellation, up to 2000 hotel rooms have been returned and are now ready for a new round of reservation from the public.

Xiang says that BOCOG has signed with 128 star-grade hotels and each of these hotels will provide 70% of their rooms for the Olympic Games. Xiang says that BOCOG had planned to sign 23000 rooms for the event, but the total number has now turned out to be over 32000. This means the supply has already exceeded the demand, so considering some hotels are located in the remote areas and are not so favored by overseas clients, BOCOG has canceled the agreement with these hotels.

Xiong Yumei, deputy director of Beijing Tourism Administration, says that there will be 800 star-grade hotels in Beijing during next year's Olympic Games apart from the 900 guest houses across the city, so there will be an abundant supply of rooms during the games. Xu Jinzhi, a director from Beijing Travel Hotel Association, introduces that the room rate of hotels in the eastern part of Beijing will be more expensive than that in the western part of the city during the Games.

The latest forecast shows there will be a daily maximum of 333,000 travelers in Beijing during the Olympic Games. Since the city has already had 646,400 beds in supply, it should meet the demands for that period. In addition, there are 105 three-star to five-star hotels under construction or being reviewed in the city, which can add an additional 29000 rooms and 50000 beds. What's more, 98 hotels from the neighboring Hebei province can also offer 5639 rooms for Beijing in case of urgency.
