According to the plan of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, there will be four regional airports built in Heilongjiang within 5 year. Besides this new airport in Jixi, Yichun airport and Daqing airport have been waiting for final approval, and Mohe airport started its construction in June 2006.

A long-term plan is that by 2020, 13 areas or cities in Heilongjiang will have their own airports.
