CEPA Travel Supplement To Be Implemented By Next Year

The supplementary agreement of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement will be fully implemented on January 1, 2008, and this will provide more travel opportunities between Hong Kong and the mainland.
News from the fourth conference on Shanghai and Hong Kong city development is the two cities will expand their cooperation in the aspects of tourism, MICE, finance and culture. The focus is on allowing Hong Kong and Shanghai residents free passage between the respective areas.
Ma Shixiang, the director of Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said that foreign tourists arriving in Hong Kong will enjoy easier procedures when traveling to Shanghai. The Shanghai Travel Committee disclosed that Shanghai will push to start joint-venture airlines on a trial basis and encourage investment from Hong Kong to set up travel agencies in Shanghai to operate outbound businesses.
CEPA is an economic agreement between the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the People's Republic of China, signed on June 29, 2003, to strengthen trade and investment cooperation between Mainland China and Hong Kong and promote joint development of the two sides.
