The National Tourism Conference held in Changsha to discuss strengthening quality management in the sector has generated some buzz.
Representatives from many tourism bureaus around the country attended this meeting, and Wang Zhifa, vice director of the China National Tourism Administration mentioned in his speech that this century China's tourism industry faces new opportunities but also many problems.
As result, the China National Tourism Administration has decided to focus efforts on pushing for an industrial transformation within the tourism sector. Enterprises will be tasked with the responsibility to develop the industry and must allocate necessary resources in order to bring about change.
The government will then provide a good policy environment and necessary funding for the tourism industry's sustainable development, but the onus will still be placed on the businesses themselves to bring about lasting change.
The Hunan Provincial Government said during the event they will take advantage of current development opportunities to fulfill the goal of becoming a great tourism province in China. Hunan is expected to reach a total of RMB70 billion tourism revenue in 2007, 20% higher than last year.
