Some hotels in Hong Kong have begun their renovations or expansion projects to meet the requirements of the MICE sector's fast development.
According to local media, Miramar Hotel has invited an international designer to redesign the hotel and spent RMB70 million to renovate the ballroom. And Regal Hotels International, which owns five hotels in Hong Kong, also will add hundreds of rooms targeting upscale business travelers.
The Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners said that the business hotels generally increase their room prices by 10%-20% after renovation. They estimated that there will be 6,000 new guestrooms in Hong Kong in the coming two years, most of which are provided by business hotels.
Regal Hotels International reportedly invested about RMB500 million in their hotels' renovation and expansion. As the group's focus, Regal Airport Hotel has expanded with 67 more deluxe guestrooms and duplex suites, a spa, 31 meeting rooms and a ballroom with the capacity of 1500 guests.
