As Howard Johnson International China moves forward in their expansion plans for China, the Annual General Managers Conference was recently held at Howard Johnson Pearl Plaza in Wuhan to address ways to promote the brand.
The newly appointed V.P. Operations China Howard Bennett announced the growth plans for the group for the remainder of 2007 as well as the impact 2008 with have on the group's brand. The Group has 19 hotels open in China as of the end of December 2007. This includes hotels in Chongqing, Wenzhou , and two new properties in Shanghai.
Bennett said that by November 2008 the brand with have 30 hotels operational in mainland China under the banner of Howard Johnson Hotels & Resorts.
The Group's Corporate Director of Marketing Shaun Hammond also outlined the new brand and advertising standards that will redefine the brand and its multiple brand tiers for 2008 and beyond. In 2008, the Plaza brand tier with dominate as it grows from the current 6 to 15 "Plaza" properties and the "Hotel" brand tier grows from 5 to 9 operational hotels. The group's general managers where also informed that Howard Johnson brand will enter the lucrative Hainan Island market with the a five-star, 1,160-room conference resort to open in Sanya Bay in October 2008.
Chairman & CEO Wilburt Chang also announced the company's launch of the platinum five-star "Plaza Royale" brand to open in 2008. The first will open in Pudong, Shanghai in the second quarter, with the "Plaza Royale Changsha" to then open later in 2008.
