According to the Hainan Tourism Bureau, this year Hainan and Hong Kong will cooperate to expand the customer resource markets of Russia, Japan and Britain with a model of multi-destination tourism combining shopping in Hong Kong with spending a holiday in Hainan.

Last year, the number of inbound tourists to Hainan grew rapidly. Of these, Russian tourists numbered 151,100 with a growth rate of 76.64%, and British tourists reached 17,600, an increase of 54.84% in numbers from the European market.

Zhang Qi, director of the Hainan Tourism Bureau, said that the tourism departments of Hainan and Hong Kong have agreed to integrate their resources and jointly promote multi-destination tourism products to these overseas markets. This year, Hainan plans to hold a series of tourism promotions in Russia along the Volga River and develop the markets of surrounding countries such as Ukraine and Kazakstan. Meanwhile Hong Kong will cooperate with Hainan to promote, in those markets, the multi-destination tourism products of shopping in Hong Kong and spending a holiday in Hainan.
