Changi Airports International Pte. Ltd. has announced plans to participate in the operation of, or investment in, six to eight airports in China over the next five years, with a total investment of SGD1 billion.

With the Chinese aviation market growing rapidly, the volume of passenger traffic is expected to increase by 11-13% annually over the next five years.

Last year, the company purchased 29% shares of Nanjing Lukou International Airport for RMB900 million. The company has also offered consultancy services to Chengdu Shuangliu Airport and wishes to develop the relationship further.

Zhao Guofeng, president of Changi Airports International said that the company is considering investing in two airports in the Central and Southern China with capacities of 4 million and 6 million passengers respectively. In addition, the company will expand some regional airports in China through a joint venture jointly founded with Shenzhen Airport Group. These regional airports are located throughout China, and have an average capacity of about one million passengers a year.
