China's Tourism Revenue For 2007 Exceeds RMB1 Trillion

News from a press conference held by CNTA is that in 2007 China's total tourism revenue exceeded RMB1 trillion for the first time.

In the whole year of 2007, China welcomed a total of 1.783 billion tourists and the total tourism revenue reached RMB1.9 trillion, increases of 15% and 22.6% respectively over the previous year. In 2007, China hosted a total of 132 million inbound tourists including 54.72 million arrivals who stayed at least one night in the country, representing growth rates of 5.5% and 9.6% respectively compared to the previous year.

The foreign exchange revenue of China increased by 23.5% to US$41.92 billion. The number of domestic tourists was 1.61 billion, 15.5% higher than previous year and domestic tourism revenue reached RMB777.062 billion with a growth rate of 24.7%. The number of Chinese outbound tourists was 40,954,000, representing a growth rate of 18.6% compared to the same period in the previous year.

Initial data published by CNTA indicates that for the first two months of 2008, both the number of international arrivals to China and the foreign exchange revenue of China hit new records.
