Ctrip.com has entered into a strategic agreement with PayPal to allow foreign nationals to book air tickets by paying with PayPal.
This will facilitate Ctrip to attract overseas customers, but now that leading Chinese travel website has payment options for non-Chinese, it needs to work on building its brand among foreginers. Ctrip says it already launched a website for China travel services in English aiming at foreign nationals, but it is still far behind English-language rivals like Xianzai.com, ChinaTravelNow.com and others who have both name recognition among non-Chinese and are respected brands with many years of doing business online.
"We chose to cooperate with PayPal because of its global leading risk control technology as well as its high visibility over the years," said James Tang, vice president of marketing at Ctrip.com.
The World Tourism Organization says that by 2010 China will exceed Spain and become the world's second most popular travel country, and by 2020 it will become the largest travel destination in the world. Websites like ChinaPulse.com have risen to meet this demand by offering targeted search directory information on various tourism topics for cities around China for foreign visitors.
