Xiamen Issues New Regulation On Star-grade Hotel Renovation

The Xiamen Municipal Planning Bureau and Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Land Resources and Housing Management have jointly issued a new regulation on approval standards for application for rebuilding and renovating four- and five-star hotels.
The regulations prescribe that rebuilding or renovation applications must be for hotels with at least four- and five-star certified qualifications. In addition the hotels should meet the following conditions: hotel projects should have obtained operating rights through non-public sale or auction; the renovation must meet the requirements for spacing between adjacent buildings; and they must follow construction and design regulations. The purpose must be to enhance the hotels' facilities and not to increase the number of guestrooms.
The value of any additional land and construction area resulting from the hotels' rebuilding or renovation is to be calculated according to the market price for such hotels.
