Ctrip.com announced at its analyst conference call for the second quarter that it has acquired Taiwan's largest travel website, ezTravel, and plans to enter the Taiwan tourism market.
Sun Jie, the CFO of Ctrip.com, stated that the company had acquired a stake in ezTravel early in 2005. In March 2009, Ctrip.com cooperated with ezTravel to become China's first travel website to launch Taiwan tour services. According to Sun the new cooperation between Ctrip.com and ezTravel will benefit mainland Chinese and Taiwan tourists.
EzTravel was established in January 2000 and is now Taiwan's largest online travel site with a registered capital of TWD218 million while Ctrip.com now occupies 60% of China's online travel market.
