After an absence of eight years, the veteran Norwegian-born hotelier Yngvar Stray has returned to The St. Regis Beijing as general manager.
Prior to this new appointment, Stray was the general manager of The St. Regis Singapore, where he spearheaded the launch of the first St. Regis hotel in Southeast Asia. He began his career as a part-time receptionist and food and beverage assistant with a local hotel in his home town of Kristiansand in Norway. He subsequently trained as a sales manager at Hotel Triangel in Oslo and then, in 1990, joined SAS Scandinavia Hotel in Oslo as revenue manager and was ultimately promoted to director of sales and marketing. Stray joined the Starwood group in 1998, as director of sales and marketing, and was subsequently promoted to hotel manager at The St. Regis Beijing, which he re-branded as Asia’s first St. Regis hotel.
