The Wuhan to Guangzhou high-speed passenger line had a successful first trial operation in early December 2009.
The Wuhan to Guangzhou high speed line will formally open on December 26, 2009. With an average speed of 350 km/h, it will only take three hours to go between the two destinations– much less than the former ten hours.
Construction commenced in June 2005 as an important part of the Beijing to Guangzhou high-speed line in the China's railway network plan. The route crosses Hubei, Hunan, and Guangdong provinces, with a total of 15 stations, including Xianning, Yueyang, Changsha, Hengyang, Zhuzhou, and Chenzhou. It is reported that there will be a train departing every three minutes.
