The Harbin North Forest Zoo, the largest woodland zoo in China, opened on a trial basis on September 10.
The 848-hectare zoo is located at Acheng Pigeon Hole, which is 43km from the downtown area. Here people can see 240 kinds of animals, such as tigers, leopards, African elephants, polar bears, penguins, pandas, and rhinoceroses. The zoo also features 12 special areas, such as the animal performance arena, wild animal area, water bird area, breeding research area, etc.
For the convenience of tourists, 50 electrical bicycles and ten bus stops are arranged around the zoo, and visitors need only pay 10rmb for the bus if they want to travel across compound. The entry ticket price is 80rmb per person, 40rmb for children, senior citizens, soldiers, and the handicapped, and free for people over 70. During the trial opening period, however, all visitors enjoy a half price discount.
