On September 26, 2004, Shangri-La's Kerry Centre Hotel, Beijing staged a unique mid-autumn Moon Cake festival at its Kowloon Ballroom for 50 children of Sun Village in Sun Li County, Beijing, a charity organization for children while their parents are serving prison sentences.

The festival at the Kowloon Ballroom featured moon cakes prepared by the hotel's pastry chefs, lunch serving children's favourites, table tennis games by the kids and the hotel associates, kids' musical and dance performances, an interactive party filled with fine food and fun activities to entertain more than 50 children.

The Kerry also donated peanut oil, quality flour and rice – basic living necessities of which the village is in need. The most heart-touching part during the event was the On line with Parent feature – using dedicated telephone lines specially set up for the children, they were able to call their parents and send on their best wishes and prayers.

Darren Gearing, General Manager of Shangri-La's Kerry Centre Hotel said This community initiative is staged by the Hotel with the hope of generating a meaningful event for those unfortunate children. Shangri-La's Kerry Centre Hotel is dedicated to being a responsible corporate citizen in Beijing. We recognize the significance of the mid-autumn Moon Cake Festival on the traditional Chinese calendar and hope this event will help brighten the lives of these deserving children.
