Presently both Chinese and foreigners can only take 6000 RMB with them when they come in or out China. But this is about to change.

Starting in 2005, the amount will be enlarged to 20000 RMB. China National Central Bank has signed trade agreements with surrounding countries, so this new policy will not affect the currency in China, but this is expected to stimulate certain trade areas.

The new policy is a result of the Chinese government realizing that travelers have have higher spending demands.
