For a long time, Guangzhou had been planning to build a new airport, Chanshan Airport, but for various reasons, the plan has been delayed. However now local media report that plans to build the new airport have been restarted.

The construction project will be started on January 1, 2006 and RMB 2.323 billion will be invested on the project.

The new airport is 20km from Shantou, Chaozhou, and Jieyang. And it is also near southern Fujian.

Now the local government is making preparations to make sure the project can be started on time.
