Associates of Sheraton Dongguan Hotel rolled up their sleeves and donated blood to the Dongguan Blood Centre this week. This is the first Care for Community activity being implemented by the hotel in relation to the Starwood Cares program and this is the first time the hospitality industry in Dongguan has coordinated a community-related activity with the Dongguan Blood Centre.

Clara Guzman, Sheraton Dongguan's Marketing and Communications Manager led about a hundred associates by donating blood. According to her, Donating blood is like giving a gift of life.  Blood is a vital part of our system and being able to share that with people who are in need is a noble cause.

The donors for the blood donation underwent training under the auspices of Dongguan Blood Centre prior to the activity. They are also being checked before donating their blood.

After the activity, the Donation Blood Centre presented a plaque of appreciation to Mr. Charlie Dang, General Manager of Sheraton Dongguan Hotel for actively supporting the blood donation.

This activity is the hotel's way of giving something back to the community which is very supportive to our business.  Aside from this activity, the hotel's management and staff are also keen on implementing other Care for Community activities in the future.

Starwood Cares is a program that is being implemented by Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. It encourages its associates in all its hotels to do community work.  One of the projects that Starwood is currently implementing is Check out for Children where the hotel guests are encouraged to donate USD1.00 for UNICEF when they check-out.
